Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Program
The University of Michigan Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Program at U-M Hospital, located on the 9th floor, provides diagnostic evaluations and comprehensive, individualized treatment for patients with serious psychiatric illnesses. Respect for patients, continuity of care, and strong communication between all parties involved in patient care define our approach.
The Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a nonresidential treatment program that provides diagnostic and treatment services on a level of intensity similar to an inpatient program, but from approx. 9AM-3:30PM daily. Opened in the Spring of 2019, the PHP is often used as a program to avert hospitalization or as a step-down level from an inpatient setting.
The primary mode of treatment for the PHP is intensive group therapy, often combined with closely monitored medication and individualized talk therapy. Group therapy sessions take place in a room like this one, and can include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Reflective Group Therapy, Psychoeducation, Music Therapy, Spiritual Care, etc.
